PLAINS INDIANS LEDGER ART OF THE GREAT SIOUX WAR
"We are very fortunate that Ledger Art exists, and that it has been preserved by people who realized its importance. It remains the closest thing to a photographic record that we have to study American Indian life and history. This collection documents Lakota life and warfare, including the best pictorial depiction of the Custer battle on the Greasy Grass (Little Big Horn) River. Anyone with an interest in Plains Indian history will find this book indispensable.
I must take time to rant about the recent proliferation of "fake" ledger books, written by non-Indians as well as others who should know better. When attention around "cultural appropriation" is given to bliss ninny/lint heads who wear feather headdresses to Burning Man, or vapid models in bikinis and Indian accessories, a more productive scrutiny should be given to this bogus "ledger art" written and illustrated by money grubbing NY "interior designers" and hack artists--- the ultimate example being the infamous "Blue Eagle" books. Beware these crappy volumes, which have zero relation to history or art.
This book is full strength, adult dose material. These drawings are the real thing, and we're lucky to have them."
